Standard of Living and Labour Productivity in the Visegrad Group
FLAŠKA, Josef
The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to evaluate whether labour productivity is linked directly with the standard of living in the Visegrad Group, including countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. To be clear what the standard of living and labour productivity is, these terms are in the theoretical part described aswell as their indicators are defined there. These indicators are later used for the practical part where the comparison between each of the state and average values of the EU27 is made. A correlation and regression analysis is used to determine the link between labour productivity per employee and 3 standard of living indicators (Gini index, median equivalised net household income and human development index) in the V4 countries. Data, which are processed for the comparison, are taken from the Eurostat and the World Bank database.
The Effect of University Education on Employment in the Visegrad Group
Karolík, Richard ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Troch, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis investigates the effect of university education on employability in the Visegrad group countries. Education as a part of human capital plays a relevant role in the labour economics. Data from the sixth round of the European Social Survey are applied to this research. The study is divided into three parts. The first part examines the impact of achieving a university degree on employability in the whole Visegrad region. The second part focuses on comparing the effect of completing university education across individual countries of the Visegrad region. The last third part studies the additional value of completing different levels of tertiary education. Results suggest that the correlation between the level of education and the probability of being employed is positive. Those who has completed university education have eighty-seven percent higher chance to be employed, in comparison with those who has completed only secondary education. The most significant difference in employability was detected in Poland and least significant in the Czech Republic. The impact of the additional level of tertiary education on the employability is higher but appears to be diminishing with higher degree. Virtual National Phonoteque - increasing cooperation
Malinová, Iva ; Horová, Iva
Last year, the National Library of Technology of the Czech Republic became the new administrator of the Virtual National Phonoteque (VNP). This unique database is the aggregator of audio documents stored in Czech institutions. The portal collects metadata across different types of institutions: libraries, archives, museums, commercial publishers, Czech Radio, Czech Television and even private collectors, making them all accessible in one location. Visitors to the portal can use it to locate metadata records for the item of interest, thereafter finding themselves with several options: to visit the owner of the audio to listen to it there or borrow it, to buy it in the publisher’s e-shop, or to view and listen digitised version directly. The portal currently contains about one and a half million metadata records and pools data from 24 suppliers. Thanks to our established collaborations we are now undertaking more projects and working towards taking the next steps. In cooperation with Supraphon we have made a new service for NLT visitors, who have exclusive direct access to the Supraphon Digital Archive, allowing them to listen music via headphones and on mobile devices from within our library. Our immediate targets for next two years are to involve and cooperate with more suppliers to enrich the VNP´s content, and to develop a new version of the portal to meet all the criteria of a modern, secure database. Given our common history, we are open to collaboration with slovak libraries and other institutions, with regards to sound recordings.

The Visegrad Group Productivity
CAPLOVÁ, Marie
The main objective of this thesis is to evaluate productivity of the countries which are part of the Visegrad Group (i.e. the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) from the macroeconomics perspective. Important terms referring to the productivity are introduced at the beginning. The thesis also describes the labour productivity, the indicators of capital and the economic growth. The calculations of the productivity types of the Visegrad Group are carried out. It also deals with the productivity analysis of other European Union members, as they are defined as NUTS 0. It compares the individual states´ productivity differences at the time of their entry into the European Union. Finally, the thesis evaluates the productivity of both the Visegrad Group and various regions of European Union.
Analysis of the pension system and its comparison between the Czech Republic and other Visegrad Group countries in the period 2004 - 2016
Kissová, Adriana ; Zeman, Martin (advisor) ; Křeček, Štěpán (referee)
Countries of the Visegrad Group implemented a number of parametric and systemic reforms of pension systems between 2004 and 2016. The second pillar of the pension system was abolished in 2016 in the Czech Republic and remaining second pillars were considerably reduced. Not only for these reforms are pension pillars different in these countries. The aim of this thesis is to analyse pension systems of the Visegrad Group countries and to compare the differences between replacement rates by country. The comparison shows that replacement rates are different across selected countries. As the wage increases, the net replacement rate is decreasing for Czech, Slovak and Polish citizens. In the case of Hungary, this claim is not valid. The lowest replacement rates of above-average wages are in the Czech Republic, so it is desirable to support alternative ways of supplementary retirement savings. Based on the findings of the thesis economic and political recommendations are proposed for political elites of these nations.
Family policy and reproductive behaviour in the Visegrad Group states after 1990
Krejčí, Anna ; Kocourková, Jiřina (advisor) ; Šťastná, Anna (referee) ; Černíková, Alena (referee)
Family policy andreproductive behaviour in the VisegradGroup states after 1990 Abstract In post-communist countries, the fertility decline has been already subjected in many researches. Aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse trends in fertility and family policy in the Visegrad countries. The goal was to find out how the post-1990 approach on family policy and response to changing social conditions differed in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. The study describes settings for each family benefits including the changes in the examined period of 1990-2013. On that basis 5-year periods were defined and assessed. The fertility analysis is focused on the total and completed fertility rate and also by parity and age-specific fertility rates. The period effect was estimated using age-period-cohort (APC) models which decompose fertility rates for age, period and cohort effects. Models were based on fertility of women aged 25-49 years in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. Results in all three countries suggest that the decline in fertility in 1995-1999 wasa reaction to the changing socio-economic conditions in 1990-1994. However, the negative effect of this period was mitigated by changes in the distribution of cohorts. The period 2000-2004 has brought many positive changes that were behind...

Development of selected economic indicators in Visegrad countries compared with the development of the European Union as a whole.
Jusková, Katarína ; Breňová, Lubomíra (advisor) ; Rusmichová, Lada (referee)
This thesis examines economic situation in the four countries of the Visegrad Group (V4) based on four chosen macroeconomic indicators and also describes their progress in comparison with the European Union as a whole. The analysed indicators are namely gross domestic product, inflation, unemployment, and budget deficit which are examined during a period since the entry of the V4 countries into the European Union in 2004 until the most recent data of 2015. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part is aimed to define basic terms related to the four macroeconomic indicators of interest and also to explain the methods of their measurement. Subsequently, the practical part examines actual values and development of these indicators during the period of interest across the countries of the V4 and compares them with the average of the whole European Union. Based on the analysis it can be inferred that economic situation of the countries of the V4 has notably improved since their entry into the EU and this trend slowly continues despite setbacks caused by the economic crisis. Moreover, it can be concluded that across the countries of the V4 Czech Republic generally performs the best in the four indicators analysed.
Is the development of the number of realized M&A transactions procyclical?
Červinková, Kristýna ; Stroukal, Dominik (advisor) ; Vozárová, Pavla (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to reveal the relation between business cycle and the number of transactions considering mergers and acquisitions. For this purpose the appropriate macroeconomics indicators have been chosen. The base hypothesis, which stands for the procyclical development of transactions, was examined by regression analysis of panel dataset containing quarterly based data from The Visegrad Group countries in the period from 2000 to 2014. The ordinary least square method together with robust estimation of standard deviation provided the confirmation about positive relation of the quarter change of GDP as the main explanatory variable and the number of transactions. Nevertheless, more robust findings appeared in case of significance of stock markets and public debt. The positive relation of the stock price was proven to be in accordance with the behavioral theory. The increase in transaction activity is capitalized through the profit from the sold of overprized stocks. Unexpected result about positive relation of public debt required the specification of assumption about the lower preference of smooth consumption of The Visegrad group households.
